We felt at home with the Saito family. Their hospitality was lovely, and the home cooking made with vegetables they’d grown themselves was great. They even have a small collection of Japanese books. I’d love to come back someday.

The couple were lovely, though they speak very little English. Their daughter is almost fluent. The booking site is in Japanese, which might be tricky, but Google Translate can sort it out. It’s a quiet, clean place with only three rooms. Two have large jacuzzi tubs, and the food was delicious, with both breakfast and dinner included. It’s less than a five-minute walk to a convenience store and about 10-15 minutes on foot to Echoland, Hakuba’s nightlife area. Streetlights are sparse, so bring a headlamp. They drove us to and from the ski resorts, which made things easier. The shuttle bus stop is less than five minutes away, but hauling all your ski gear can make that walk feel much longer. We had a very pleasant stay, and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to experience Hakuba.
