I spent five days skiing here on a solo trip and would come back next year. My ground-floor en-suite room had a European bed and was spacious and comfortable. This is a good-value Japanese-style B&B with only eight rooms. Breakfast came promptly at the time I booked. The owner and staff were friendly. Their English was limited, but my very poor Japanese, Google Translate, and speaking slowly helped us understand one another. There’s just one European toilet, beside the dining room. The hallways get cold since there’s no central heating, only gas space heaters in the rooms. I like the cold, so that didn't bother me. The hot water is off during the day, but it was always back on by the time I returned at 4:30 pm. Most mornings I took a taxi with my skis to the gondola, about ¥1,100, then caught the free Evergreen Ski School shuttle back in the afternoon. Après-ski spots were an easy walk, all within 1.4 km.

I slept perfectly on the provided futon, and the landlady was friendly and efficient. The interior feels genuinely local. It’s close to town and amenities, but a short walk still lets you take in nature and the valley surrounded by mountains. I’d stay again anytime.

For the price, this B&B was great. It's an eight-minute drive from Hakuba town and Gondola no.1. The style is basic and traditional, with tatami floors, futons, and a private Japanese-style bathroom with a bath. Our room was warm with a gas heater, and there’s a drying room for wet gear. The owner was helpful and speaks some English. She even accommodated our vegetarian breakfast request. Breakfast was tasty, traditional, and healthy. Good location and comfort for a budget stay.

The owners were super sweet, but the place feels stuck in the old world. For this money, I'd choose a modern hotel by the slopes. It's a small, family-run complex with six units and very old-school accommodation, or hardly any accommodation at all. The hot water is turned off midday and in the evenings. There are gas heaters inside, potentially poisonous, and single-pane windows. The traditional bathroom was ice cold. The bed was just a mat and blanket, and I'm glad we brought our own down comforter and pillows. It felt like living with my parents again, with a 10 pm curfew.
