Hotel Sierra Resort Hakuba

The mountain view from the outdoor onsen is beautiful, and this is one of my favorite onsens. The hotel has lots of little extras: ice cream and coffee milk at the bath, free wine and sake in the lounge, snacks and popcorn for kids, and a spot between the wings where they can play in the snow. The free green curry lunch is great too. Rooms are spacious, clean and nicely updated. The restaurant is excellent at breakfast and dinner. For me, it’s the best hotel in Hakuba.

The kids always pick this place when I ask which hotel they like best. We ski here several times a year, and they call it “the one with the popcorn.” At check-in they head straight for the popcorn machine, while the lobby has free coffee, teas, snacks and apple juice for them. Curry rice is served by the entrance in the afternoon too. It may not be the fanciest or most expensive hotel, but it feels warm and welcoming, with thoughtful little treats that make people happy. The staff are friendly, dinner is delicious, and the big hot spring bath is wonderful. The milk by the entrance is especially good. Thanks for a lovely few days. I only came for the Onsen, not to stay overnight. The hot spring was roomy and relaxing, with three tubs: a large square one indoors, a wooden one outside, and a round stone one outside that was closed. In the waiting area there was coffee milk, water and several kinds of ice cream. The hotel lobby was clean, cozy and nicely thought out. I’d recommend visiting the Onsen even if you’re not staying here. Ambiance: 10/10 ♨️

The food was very good, with a different dinner menu each day, though dinner was a little pricey and I’m not sure why we couldn’t choose a booking without it. Service was excellent, and the staff were polite and friendly. I’d definitely return. The hotel is spacious, and the onsen is big and clean, with both private and public baths. They give out delicious free ice cream at the public onsens. After a blizzard there was lots of snow to play in. You can get there by car or by shuttle from the JR station. The wifi became slow and unstable at night.
