Umitoyama Hakuba

The quiet, dedicated area where I could get work done was a real highlight, letting me stay productive without losing the enjoyment of the trip. Everything was thoughtfully managed, from the spotless common areas to the clean, comfortable sleeping arrangements. The shared showers were well maintained and never caused any problems. Martin, the owner, was a true gentleman, and his team were pleasant, helpful, and clearly wanted us to enjoy our stay. The location was excellent for exploring Hakuba. Meals were more than adequate, with extra options when needed, and the quality and variety went beyond what I expected. The pricing was very reasonable for the comfort and hospitality. From our arrival onward, Umitoyama Hakuba felt like a carefully run retreat, with guest comfort considered throughout. A big thank you to Martin and the whole team for making our time there welcoming and memorable. It was a highlight of our time in Japan, and I'd happily recommend it.

The room felt cramped and overcrowded, and the bathroom was small and shared with others. The dirty curtain triggered our allergies, and the Wi-Fi was slow and unreliable. We also lost our luggage storage deposit because we waited more than 10 minutes for our bus, which felt unfair. The stay was disappointing and not worth the money. After we posted our review on Google map, staff threatened to report that we “harass” Japanese, which isn't true.

The location was really central for the snow fields, restaurants, and shuttle buses. We stayed four nights and loved it. The rooms were great, the staff lovely, and breakfast was good. I'd stay at umitoyama again.
