White Horse Hotel

The room, food, and onsen at the Whitehorse Hotel were all wonderful, well beyond what we expected. What stays with us most, though, is how Tony and his team cared for us after a serious snowboarding accident. They were patient, compassionate, and willing to help in every way, and their support made a world of difference during an incredibly hard time. We're so grateful we were somewhere warm and supportive while going through that. We look forward to returning one day and sharing a drink with Tony to thank him in person.

The people at White Horse, especially Tony, made this trip feel like staying with family. They drove us to a different mountain each morning and came back whenever we were ready to be picked up. We loved the location, facilities, and food too. Our family of six came from Hawaii for a last-minute ski and snowboard trip, and none of us had skied in Japan before. I booked in a rush because the place could fit us all, not realizing we'd stumbled on such a fantastic boutique hotel. The conditions and area were so good that I may never ski in the States again. 10 out of 10.

We honestly would've stayed longer at The White Horse and in Hakuba if Tony hadn't had a big group arriving. This was our third time in Hakuba, and we wish we'd found Tony and the White Horse team sooner. Dinner and drinks there have a friendly, local feel, like being with family and friends, though new visitors can miss the restaurant and bar tucked off the side street. The hotel sits in Echoland, a short walk from the main road and its bars and restaurants. Breakfast was just right before taking the free shuttle to whichever slope we fancied, and thanks for all the coffees I needed to get going in the morning. Our room was larger than usual for the area, with a lounge, and there was downstairs restaurant space where I could catch up on work before skiing.

The staff were so good with us, and the hotel is right in the middle of Hakuba valley for skiing. They take guests to and from all 10 local resorts each day. Our room was clean and roomy, and there are two lovely onsens. Breakfast and dinner were hot and delicious, with cold drinks too. Hard to say enough good things about the people and the place. Thanks, guys, we'll be back!
