Dinner and breakfast were like treasure boxes, and we loved the traditional Japanese food. The open-air bath was really nice too. A very comfortable ryokan.

The service was amazing, and we’d definitely return for another relaxing holiday. We visited in March 2024 and there were almost no tourists around, which made it feel like a hidden gem. The hinoki wood onsen was top-notch, and the food was fabulous. The room toilet smelled a little funky, but we hardly used it anyway.

The lake view from the room was beautiful, and the staff were all kind and helpful. The location was brilliant for getting to the best things to do in the area. The food was amazing too, especially the nine-course dinner.

Dinner is served kaiseki-style and was superb in every detail. The owner describes this place as a Kappo Ryokan, specializing in fine dining. There are 31 rooms, and each has a large window with a direct view of Hamanako Lake. The photo was taken from inside a room. The men's outdoor public bath is on the ground level and also looks straight out over Hamanako Lake.
