Aki Grand Hotel & Spa

The onsen was clean, pleasant, and large enough for about 10 people. Still, the rest of the place feels very old. The rooms, especially the bathrooms, smelled like an old attic. The room was clean by German standards, though not by Japanese standards. There’s little to explore nearby, just a busy road leading to a McDonald’s and a 7/11. I’d stay in Hiroshima and take the train to the shrine on Miyajima instead. You don’t need to wake up to see it every day. This place seems suited to people over 50, unless all you want to do is sit in the onsen.

Dinner came in large portions and leaned heavily on carbs, with rice, udon, and soba. The sushi and oysters were amazing, while breakfast felt like filler food. The room had a great view, and the lobby was huge and impressive. The futons and blankets were great too. The building could use a makeover and feels dated. There was no thermostat, only a fan speed control, and neither onsen had a view.

My family was terrified by the state of this run-down hotel. The pictures on its website and other third-party sites are outdated and misleading, and the place didn’t live up to expectations. I paid 750 Canadian dollars for two nights, but checked out a day early. I’ve posted photos and videos so you can see for yourself. I complained to the manager, who didn’t even apologize. I’d book a nice hotel in Hiroshima and visit this area instead. It’s only 20 to 30 minutes away.

The room had a weird smell, the phones were on the floor, and the place felt disgusting and filthy. The TV was the size of an iPad. Misleading pictures and fake reviews, and they charge Hilton prices or more for some of the worst rooms ever. DO NOT STAY HERE.
