Miyajima Guest House Mikuniya

The staff were friendly and really helpful, and the island location is pretty good. I liked the modern Japanese interior, and the common area had plenty of seats, games, and instruments. Most places were clean, including the kitchen, common space, hallways, toilet, and onsen, which costs 500 yen to use. The dorms and shower room could use a better clean, though. I mostly stayed in hostels costing half as much that were spotless. My bedding had hairs and stains, and the shower area was dirty around the door and clothes basket. The upper bunk got hot with little airflow. The food was okay for the price, but not really to my taste. I wouldn't want it for more than a night, and the same goes for breakfast. I'd still recommend the property, with those cleanliness issues in mind.

I hadn't stayed in a dorm before and wasn't sure what it would be like, but I really enjoyed it. The house was peaceful, and the staff were friendly and spoke English. Dinner curry was delicious, while breakfast had cereal choices and bread or toast. A great place to stay if you want to see Itsukushima after the other tourists have left and things are quieter.

We were glad we booked this guest house. It's close to the shrine and ropeway, yet quiet, and the rooms are lovely with great views. The owners were friendly, and the included dinner and breakfast were excellent.

Juniya, who I assume is the manager, was a huge help. My planned eBike rental place was unexpectedly closed on Tuesday, so I asked here as a non-guest and he arranged a bike for the day. It cost 3,000 yen, which felt very reasonable for the service, quality, and value. Having the bike saved my feet and let me see basically the whole island. After that kind of service, I'll stay here in the future.
