We only came for the restaurant, not to stay. Finding halal food in Miyajima is honestly difficult, so we were glad to see the halal-certified menu. Yamaishi Bekkan has two restaurants next to each other, and the one on the left serves the halal meals, as the sign outside says. It’s cozy, welcoming, and very affordable. The kind older ladies who served us made it feel even warmer. We ordered the fried chicken set and fried oysters, which came with salad, rice, sauce, soup, and complimentary tea. The oysters are especially worth trying.

We got there late, but still made it in time for the included 8-course dinner. The owner's son explained how each dish used fresh local ingredients from the Seto Inland Sea, which made the meal feel special. He also suggested an early walk to see the Great Torii at low tide and mapped out a good Mount Misen hiking route for the next day. That thoughtful, personal hospitality is hard to find at a big chain. The hotel is right across from the ferry terminal, which made the location incredibly convenient. This is a dependable halal restaurant on the island, easy to spot next to the Lawson. I went for lunch and the staff and chef were kind, accommodating, and quick to welcome us. The dining room has old-fashioned charm, from the table arrangement to the atmosphere, and there’s a huge aquarium in the corner. We had the eel set with two sides, and I tried all four. The fried oysters had a crunchy coating and were average-sized; the grilled oysters were quite big and tasted fresh. The raw sea eel was a little dry but soft and not smelly, while the vegetable tempura had crisp batter and tender vegetables. The grilled sea eels with their savory soy glaze were all good. The chef was friendly, and I felt well looked after. Totally recommend it for Muslim travelers.

Shinko-San was one of the highlights of our trip. She was lovely, and even worked around our tight schedule. The food was incredible, the room cozy, and the location great. We’ll remember the stay for a long time, and would happily stay again if we return to Miyajima.

The kaiseki dinners and lavish breakfasts were out of this world, every bite felt luxurious. During our month in Japan, staying at Yamaichi Bekkan was a highlight. Shinko san made us feel so welcome and was wonderfully attentive. Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and had a lovely outlook. The ryokan is right across from Miyajima wharf and next door to the shopping streets, so the location could hardly be more convenient. Shinko-san, thank you very much! 🦘🦘🦘
