The river sound was calming, and in the morning we had a lovely view of the sea. The place sits in a corner of a hot spring villa area. There was only one other group staying, so our children could be a little noisy without it being a problem. The guesthouse staff were helpful and kept the kids entertained. The bath was a hot spring, and we could book private use at set times.
There aren't any convenience stores nearby, so picking up drinks ahead of time is a good idea. An old car navigation system may have trouble finding the pension, and Google Maps is the better bet. The staff were all kind and friendly, and on the day I stayed there were no small children, so it was quiet and peaceful. This cozy place sits on a hill overlooking the Atagawa Sea, with a Mediterranean-style exterior. It will mark its 30th anniversary in 2026. They offer private hot spring baths and delicious Western food made with local fish and fruit.
The food left us feeling recharged, and even my daughter, who can be picky, ate plenty. We loved the homemade Greek yogurt at breakfast so much that we went back for seconds. There was also a play area for kids, which meant we could relax and enjoy our time there. The staff were kind, the service was excellent, and both kinds of hot springs were really relaxing. After climbing a steep hill to reach the inn, we were rewarded with a lovely view: forest and the sound of a river nearby, with the sea in the distance. My daughter and I had a peaceful, refreshing stay, and we’ll definitely return.
When we visited in June, fireflies were out. A walk of about 5-10 minutes from the inn took us to several of them dancing in the dark. The way there was pitch black, but our phone flashlights were enough to find the spot. The delicious Mediterranean food, house-made drinks, and hot springs are all available at a surprisingly reasonable price.
My mother and I were both very happy with our stay, and I’d like to come back once my leg has healed. I’m sorry for the trouble caused by an injury I got on the day we stayed. The couple who seemed to run the place were attentive and had a great sense of humor, which made the visit even more enjoyable. We’d booked because we liked the Mediterranean-inspired building, and the food lived up to that first impression: every dish was delicious, with lovely homemade yogurt and sorbet. The bath was wonderful too. The inn sits high on a steep mountainside above Izu-Atagawa Station, and I was surprised to find a villa in such a spot.
