NEST felt like a home away from home, and I'd happily stay there again. It's close to the port and Shiomachi, the main street, and the staff are warm and pleasant. The old building has been renovated thoughtfully and is set up nicely. I'd read about creaky floors, but they didn't bother me much, and earplugs are available. Noise is really only a problem if the people sharing the place are loud. I was in room B and found a quiet way to use the door: pull the handle toward you before turning it to enter, and do the reverse when leaving. The lounge has cups, glasses, plates, and bowls, plus a microwave and toaster, which was enough for me, though there's no cookware.

We used it as a stop on the Shimanami Kaido. It feels more like a hostel, with shared showers and washroom, than a hotel. Our room had bunks and a futon, and we had to make the beds ourselves. Sound travels easily, so early risers in other rooms may wake you, earplugs could help. If you're tall, mind the door frames, they're only about 175 cm high.

The front desk young man was so friendly and walked me through everything at check-in, making sure I knew where things were. The room was spotless and comfortable, and the location was great. Even with a shared bath and toilet, it felt very clean. Good atmosphere, I'd come back.

A comfortable, clean room and shower, in a great spot. The staff were really friendly and their English was very good. If you're cycling the Shimanami Kaido and want to split the ride over two days, this makes a great place to stop.

Shiomi-san and his wife look after the place themselves, and you can tell they care about each guest. He had lots of nearby suggestions and paper guides ready, and even offered to take our photo by the bridge. They also provide free extras like pads and skincare products that many places don't have. We stayed one night in February during our bike trip, and it was a great break. It's an older, traditional home converted into an inn, with shared bathrooms and showers. Only two rooms were booked while we were there, so sharing wasn't an issue. It was chilly coming upstairs after a shower, but the water was hot and there was a heater. The rooms have portable Dyson units and comfy futons. We didn't spend much time in the lounge, but there's a cozy indoor area with tea, coffee, hot water, and kitchen things. Outside there's a roomy space with chairs and a hammock, though winter was too cold to use it. I bet it'd be even nicer in summer. Arigatou Shiomi-san!
