It was our first trip to Izu by car, a little far from Tokyo, but well worth it. My family and I had a room with a private bathtub, which was amazing. Dinner and breakfast were delicious, and breakfast came with a great view. Some staff speak English, too. They served us kindly, and I’d really like to go back.

The staff were so hospitable. There’s no escalator, but they helped carry my luggage up to my room. I enjoyed my stay, and the food was nice. They also offered customers lunch boxes, and the snacks were good, too.

We booked a sea-view suite with a private hot spring, and both the spring and the view met our expectations. But a glass panel in the room shattered from what seemed like very light contact, leaving deep cuts on my hands. I turned around to open the glass door and hit the panel with my head first. It broke apart, and the pieces fell on me. It was frightening to see it shatter right in front of me. The photo shows where my head contacted the panel, and the medical note says there was no bump or injury to my head, only cuts on my hands from the falling glass. The impact wasn’t strong enough, in my view, to explain why it broke. I believe the panels weren’t of a suitable grade for use as full glass doors. Luckily my eyes and face were unharmed. The cuts are healing, though one finger is still too swollen to bend, and I hope it heals fully. There are many newer, better-built, and therefore safer hotels nearby. I wouldn’t book this one again because the injury risk isn’t worth it. If you’re staying here with kids, please be extra careful.

We booked quite spontaneously, and the reservation was easy. Our third-floor room was spacious and quiet, with a private spa. The food and service were extraordinary, and the staff were thoughtful throughout. We had an amazing seaside stay with a perfect view. A great spot for a weekend at an authentic, traditional Japanese onsen spa right by the ocean. Highly recommended.
