Kibotcha - Hostel

Lovely staff and good food made this a great place to stay. Sendai is about 45 minutes away by train.

We had a great two-night glamping trip, with a dome stay and BBQ that the kids really enjoyed. The dome was cozy and comfortable. There’s no bathroom inside, but one a short walk away did the job. We ate outside under a covered area, so it was protected if it rained. Both nights we grilled the provided meat and vegetables over charcoal, and they gave us a pot of rice as well. Drinks are sold nearby, along with marshmallow for dessert. The old schoolhouse has rooms upstairs. On the second floor, the kids’ indoor playground kept them busy for a couple of hours. The first floor has the bathhouse and the kitchen where we had breakfast. It was a filling traditional Japanese breakfast for our family. Staff were amazing, friendly, and very helpful throughout. They know some English, though there aren’t many signs in English. If you’re staying around this area, especially with kids, this place is a great choice. There’s plenty to keep them happy.

During our Michinoku Trail trip, we stayed at the campsite. The old school building has been renovated beautifully, with toilets, showers, and even a water dispenser. The stars were stunning, and it made for a wonderful experience. Thank you very much.

The indoor play area was in a dangerous situation while children were running around beside workers painting the walls. I think that work should be done after closing or on a quieter weekday. I brought my child to play, but the floor was incredibly dirty, covered with dust and hair. I wondered if it had been cleaned at all and even suspected the blocks and other toys might not have been disinfected. Elementary school-aged kids were running around, so I think it could be difficult with preschoolers.
