Being right beside the fireworks site worked out well, since we got to watch the rescheduled display. The washing machine and dryer were free to use, and the room had a sink even though there was no toilet. A toilet in the room would have been better, but the sink was still useful. We paid about ¥3,900 per person a night for two people in a room, booking through Rakuten Travel during the August peak season. Villa Iwasawa is behind Hotel Ocean Iwasawa, where you check in, and guests can use the hotel bath. The entrance to Hotel Ocean is around the back, up some stairs. The villa itself felt cramped and dated. One of our two rooms smelled of men's hair gel. There was an untidy rubbish dump right in front, or at least what looked like one. The dryer was dusty and stopped working until it was cleaned, and the washing machine had a moldy-looking stain. The shower wasn't moldy, but walking over to the hotel was a hassle, so I used the villa bathroom. I didn't feel like getting into its tub.

The room had cobwebs behind the fridge and TV, plus crickets, other bugs, and the occasional moth. There was even a previous guest's beard hair on the sink. The kettle smelled like melted plastic, and the shower hose in the public bath was moldy. Cleaning throughout the hotel seemed poor. Maybe the location plays a part, but the room-only price needs another look. For that kind of money, you can get a standard hotel in Tokyo.
