Migiwatei Ochikochi

The service was excellent, top-level Japanese hospitality. We drove to a nearby sister hotel, where staff picked us up and brought our luggage to the room. On arrival they explained the hotel’s amenities and how everything worked, and were very accommodating. We booked a room with a private onsen, which I highly recommend. The lobby also has complimentary adult drinks, juices, and snacks. Our room had a private bath on the balcony overlooking the ocean, and it was comfortable and relaxing. There were plenty of toiletries, a nice coffee set, complimentary drinks, chocolate, pajamas, and a yukata to wear around the hotel. I only wish there’d been a small dresser for clothes from the suitcase. The hotel is right on the waterfront in a small seaside town, with excellent views. The food is a must for the full ryokan experience.

We booked a suite and had a lovely sashimi dinner brought to our room. The balcony was very large, with a nice chance to take in the small seaside Japanese town. The staff were professional and very nice. Excellent hotel, everything was perfect.

The staff were amazing, kind souls, and I’d return without a question. It’s quiet here, a huge contrast with the big cities. Request meal preferences well in advance. One sad point: a 350 ml half bottle of California Chablis that costs $10 was marked up more than tenfold, to over $100. I thought it must be a typo. The message is, don’t order wine in the restaurant in the evening. Enjoy!

The food was amazing, and the place has a lovely view. If you drive, you need to park at a different hotel, but they’ll pick you up and take you to this one.
