The room was big and the staff were nice. Dinner was excellent, yummy yummy. Full marks from me.

Good location, good service and good food.

The innkeeper, Junko, was friendly with Korean guests and spoke Korean. That alone could have earned a perfect score, but I'd recently visited many onsen ryokans around Hita and Amagase, so my standards have gone up. I'm giving it four stars. I do wish there had been a free coffee area in the lobby. Hope this helps with your trip. I took the ryokan shuttle from Amagase Station. There aren't any convenience stores nearby, so I'd suggest buying food at Hita or Hakata Station before coming. I stayed one night on a two-meal plan, with meals served in a private restaurant room. The kaiseki dinner's sashimi was the standout, though the portions might feel small for men. The room had outlets in handy places and mandarin orange juice in the fridge, a nice touch. Compared with nearby sister hotel Shinshiyo, where I'd stayed recently, my room at Shinshiyo had an open-air bath and felt more private. If an in-room open-air bath is what you're after, consider Shinshiyo. The hot spring water was very soft and slightly alkaline, with a pH of 8.4. The men's and women's baths switch in the morning and evening, so I could enjoy a different atmosphere. The large bath only had an all-in-one moisturizing gel for cosmetics.
