Mercure Tottori Daisen Resort & Spa

Marta was very helpful and compassionate when she sorted out our concerns. Without her, this would have been a one-star review. Our room smelled of smoke and was extremely old, with stains all over the carpets and chairs. The bed was hard as a rock and so uncomfortable that I had to sleep right at the edge to avoid the deformed springs. There are renovated rooms with normal carpets and no smell, though the beds are still uncomfortable. You have to pay extra for one, and it's not made clear that the unrenovated rooms are in atrocious condition. I understand a large hotel takes time to renovate, but these rooms shouldn't be rented out. It's embarrassing for the hotel and rude to customers. Thanks again to Marta for her help.

On our last stay, January 4, my husband and I were appalled by the noise in the lounge from 3 to 5 p.m. Children were running around, screaming, shouting, and singing the whole time. I'd stayed here many times over the years and was surprised when Mercure took over, but they'd done a very good job making the place more comfortable and beautiful. The buffet dinner was lovely, and we enjoyed a hot spring bath. After 9 p.m., my husband went alone for a drink at the 12th-floor lounge. He texted that even in a nighttime lounge there were families with children, and he was shocked by the parents' lack of morals. He's normally a very tolerant Japanese husband. When he got back, he said children were running and screaming while adults tried to sip whiskey quietly, and he hadn't enjoyed it at all. Management might consider signs saying “No children under 18 after 9 PM” and “Quiet please!” around the lounge. That's why I'm giving three stars. I'll probably stay at Mercure again, but if children are running out of control, it'll be my last time. Keep this in mind if you're looking for quiet relaxation at an otherwise nice place. Update: Staying here again, 4/5. Yesterday a woman let her two shrieking children splash and swim in the hot spring. My husband went to the 12F lounge for a drink again and said it was teeming with children. The hotel is still nice and well located for climbing nearby mountains, but beware of irresponsible humans and noisy children.

The breakfast selection was extraordinary. The hotel is old and well located for views of Daisen, when it's not hiding shyly behind the clouds. I stayed one night on 26.12.2025.

The mountain scenery, nature, and temple around the hotel are stunning, and the view from the property is beautiful too. The spa is spacious, clean, and nice. I also enjoyed the free drink and snack periods, with plenty of choices. The front desk staff were friendly and did everything they could to fix the problem. I feel bad that their employer has left them to work in this mess and handle the complaints. Our first room was in a filthy, unrenovated area and clearly hadn't been cleaned in a long time. They'd changed the bedding and towels, but the carpets were covered in stains, there was hair everywhere, the pillows were stained, and the vents were filthy. The whole place was outdated and smelled bad. Mercure shouldn't rent out unrenovated rooms, or should at least reduce the rate, but cleaning them is the bare minimum. After we complained several times, we were moved to a renovated room, though there are still very few of those. We should have received a discount or refund for the inconvenience and very bad experience.
