Keio Presso Inn Hamamatsucho Hotel

I won't stay with this hotel chain again. I've stayed at more than 300 hotels and never encountered rules or behavior like this. Check-in took an extremely long time because of outdated systems, even though staff were standing idle. They didn't speak or understand basic English. At checkout, I was charged €12 for being just 20 minutes late. In my experience, hotels normally don't mind such a small delay, but this was enforced aggressively. When I asked them to waive the fee, staff were rude, shouted in broken English, and acted completely unprofessionally. The service was terrible.

The room was tiny, but for the price I thought it was well worth it, and I’d stay here again. I was here for six days, with Daimon Station nearby and Tokyo Tower close too. There’s a Lawson attached to the hotel and a FamilyMart across the road. Shimbashi is about a 10-15 minute walk, with plenty of places where locals go for dinner and happy hour.

The staff were kind and professional, and check-in and checkout were easy. I also liked the breakfast, which had plenty of choices. The rooms are small by Japanese standards, but seemed fine for a one- or two-week trip. The hotel is in Minato, with two metro stations about a 2-3 minute walk away, making it easy to get around Tokyo. One of them is connected to the Narita Express. There’s a Lawson connected to the hotel, plus other convenience stores along the street.

I won't be coming back to Keio Presso Inn. My experience there was a sharp contrast with the hospitality I've enjoyed on many previous trips to Japan. We couldn't find our passports, so I let the front desk know an hour before checkout that we might be delayed. After we found them, we checked out 20 minutes late. The hotel charged us 2,200 JPY for a full extra hour, despite the advance notice. I wasn't asking for a free stay, just some understanding given the stressful situation. The staff member at the desk came across as cold and dismissive, with no offer to compromise. After we paid, she didn't thank us or give a polite nod, and the look she gave us made us feel like a nuisance. The whole departure felt unpleasant. That lack of empathy and basic courtesy was unacceptable to me.
