The famous author akutagawa ryunosuke stayed here twice.

The place has the feel of your grandmother's old house, since the building itself is pretty old. It's also much cheaper than the accommodation nearby, so you have to accept a few drawbacks. Finding it is difficult. At night, following Google Maps from Kazusa-Ichinomiya Station took me onto an unlit gravel track through bamboo groves. The foreign staff are quite informal and a bit rough in how they speak, though it didn't bother me once I got used to it. I'm a little germ-conscious, so I couldn't bring myself to use the bathtub, shampoo, or body soap. And there isn't a hair dryer.

I slept really well and felt rested after my night there. I only stayed one night with breakfast, arriving just after 8pm. It was still dark, and I walked right past the green flashing sign at first. The landlady (?) was a little quirky, but left me with a good impression. I'd gone in with low expectations from the reviews, and the place turned out much better than I thought.
