Hotel Metropolitan Yamagata

We used Hotel Metropolitan as our base while exploring Yamagata Prefecture, and the location, station access, and hospitality made it worthwhile. Our corner room in the older tower was spacious, well equipped, and had a spectacular view. The bathroom could use an update, though.

We stayed here in May 2025, and having the train station right beside the hotel made getting around really convenient. There’s also a mall connected to it with lots of food options. Breakfast at the cafe was great, with plenty to choose from. Our room was clean and nice, and the bed was comfortable. I couldn’t find anything wrong with the hotel.

The rooms are a little dated, but they were very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was superb, and the staff were kind throughout. I also had a relaxing head spa treatment, and the spa staff were wonderful even though I could only speak English. Great hotel and service.

Mr Sato really made our Yamagata trip memorable. We’d come mainly to pick cherries, and since I know only a little Japanese, I asked him for help while checking in. He called the cherry farm to confirm we could go the next day. Later, when we came back, there was printed information in English about cherry-picking slipped under our door. That kind of extra care meant a lot to us. We had a wonderful time picking cherries at Sagae, and we’re grateful for his help. The room was clean and cozy, and we had a lovely stay. We also enjoyed the Japanese breakfast at Mogamitei. The food was delicious, and the staff there were polite and friendly.
