Komecho Ryokan / Vacation STAY 33206

The hosts gave us a warm welcome and a charming little tour. It’s a cute place, about a 20m walk from the train station through the shopping district. The room was large, the beds were comfy, and the straw mats smelled wonderful. I’d stay again.

The dinner was a gorgeous, tasty meal, with what I think was seabream prepared five different ways. Breakfast was traditional Japanese fare with several small dishes, including miso soup. After we arrived, the hosts kindly showed us to our room, then we relaxed in the bath and changed into the provided yakuta. The bathroom facilities are a bit dated, though they were clean. I think the website linked through Google Maps is out of date. We booked through the gambo-ad website and got a quick response. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend it, especially for the price.

After finishing the Shimanami Kaido ride, we stopped at Komecho hotel and loved it. The hosts were really nice, and our room had a great view. The place has a real Showa-era feel. We chose breakfast and dinner, and both were among the best meals of our Japan trip so far. We’ll definitely come back.

The staff were really kind and sweet, and my room was clean and quiet. I was on the third floor with little luggage, but at 175cm (5’9”) I still had to duck a bit on the narrow stairs under the low ceiling. People who are very tall or carrying lots of bags might find them difficult. It was still well worth it. There are restaurants and shops nearby to check out, even if you’re just using the hotel as a base before cycling.
