The onsen ended up being a highlight. The outdoor bath had lovely autumn colors around it, and the water temperature was just right. The baths were well equipped, though don't expect complimentary milk or drinks after bathing. We might keep this hotel in mind for a future Nagano trip during Sakura season, when the setting could be a hidden gem. We did enjoy our stay. We came in November, which didn't seem like the ideal season for this spot. Nagano usually has red leaves everywhere, but the Mibu River had dried up, which was a real letdown. The hotel is by the river and feels quiet and secluded, about a 15-minute drive from the nearest cluster of towns and restaurants. It's a little out of the way, though just 10 minutes from the closest town and 15 minutes from larger townships. The staff handled things fairly smoothly, but seemed unprepared for visitors from abroad, arriving just after the COVID bans were lifted and the Japanese government's nationwide travel coupons. Our room was spacious by Japanese standards, classic and clean, but due for some updating. It had a small balcony overlooking the river, restaurants, and Onsen. Since the river was dry during our visit, that view was sad. I wish the hotel had mentioned that on its website or in its marketing. Breakfast was a standard Japanese buffet with bread as well as congee and rice. We're used to this kind of hotel breakfast, so it was fine, but it lacked a little something. A local specialty, like milk from the area or locally sourced eggs, would've been nice.

The rooms were comfortable and really nice, with ensuite bathrooms, wifi, and a good view. I especially liked the breakfast. It was so cheap too, just 6.000 yen without meals. I absolutely recommend this hotel!

The best place to stay in the Ina area.

The spring water feels slippery on the skin, especially in the outdoor bath, and it's really pleasant. You can look over the pond from there, and at night tree frogs come out into the open-air bath. It's a little pricey, but still a very nice hot spring. I've visited for day trips in both August 2025 and June 2025. For the June visit, payment was at the hotel front desk, 800 yen per person or 700 yen for JAF members. The baths are on the first floor, women's at the front and men's at the back. There are shoe lockers and lockers for valuables in the changing room, while clothes go in baskets, so keep valuables in a locker. There’s an indoor jacuzzi and an open-air bath. The water is alkaline.

The room was spacious, and the separate shampoo and conditioner with horse oil were surprisingly good. They’re also sold in the shop. The breakfast choices were limited, but it included baguette-style bread, and the white rice was delicious. I’d give it a pass. It felt like a respectable hotel, maybe around three stars even though it was rated two. I stayed during the summer holidays. There wasn't a quiet spot to hang out, but it seems like a nice place for autumn leaves or cherry blossoms in spring. The hot spring was lukewarm at 41 degrees Celsius. The water felt a bit slimy, and I thought it might help soothe rough skin. The description said it was alkaline. The towel set didn't include socks.
