Villabu Resort

We stopped in for lunch while on a business trip and to look around the property. The menu leaned Italian when we visited, with local or regional ingredients worked into each dish. The staff were warm and helpful throughout, though knowing a little basic Japanese is useful. There are only a few lovely, very private villas, with pools and views across a private cove to the sea. The place is easy to reach from Miyako, Irabu, or Shimoji, and not far from the bridge between Irabu and Miyako. You can eat there even if you aren't staying in a villa. I'd call ahead if possible, since it's a small, intimate spot. It makes a nice change after a few days of local Japanese food. And if you prefer softer pasta, mention it when ordering. They may cook it al dente in the Italian style.

The food was delicious, and the staff were so friendly that we felt comfortable right away. We tried morning yoga on the terrace and had a lovely time. We rented the whole building with its attached gazebo, which felt wonderfully luxurious. The private beach was beautiful, and we went back several times during our four-day, three-night honeymoon. There are just six buildings, so we hardly ran into anyone. I think that quiet seclusion is one of the best things about the place.

We were able to have a BBQ right on our room terrace, and both the seafood and meat were delicious. The breakfast choices were Japanese, Western, and Miyako soba. Everything was good, but Miyako soba was my favorite by far. The staff were lovely. One morning we needed to leave earlier than planned, and they kindly got breakfast ready ahead of time, which helped us a lot. Between the room view, terrace, private beach, and service, our honeymoon stay felt wonderful in every way. It's a bit far from the city center, so going out for drinks in the evening takes some traveling. But if you want a quiet place to unwind and look out at the ocean, this is a great fit. I'd recommend it for a special trip or anniversary.

I love Irabu Island, so I chose to stay in a villa here this time. The welcome drink came with castella cake, and it was delicious. There's a private beach too. I went in the morning and had the lovely atmosphere all to myself. I had plans one morning and asked about breakfast, and they let me switch it to brunch. Such a wonderful villa. Thank you!
