I’m from Taiwan and spent two nights here. After the big capsule-style places I’d stayed in Tokyo and Nagoya, this felt much more welcoming. It’s very close to Ise Station, and the owner’s self-designed circular guesthouse is really distinctive. Kenta Son helps look after the place and is easy to like from the first meeting. It’s a dorm, so sound carries; don’t be too fussy and just go with the flow. I’d recommend it to backpackers.

The owner was very kind and let us leave our luggage both before and after check-in and check-out. The hotel is right by the station, making it easy to get around Ise. Inside, it felt clean and cozy, with plenty of places to sit and a bar upstairs. The rooms were clean too, and the bedding was good quality.

We had a lovely time at this guest house, and they let us check in early, which was great. The person working there was so kind. When he noticed my Velvet Underground shirt, he played one of my favorite songs, and it made my day. The building also had a gentle, natural wood smell that was really pleasant.

The best part was our host, who was warm and friendly and made us feel so welcome. He even played some of our favorite music for us. Guest House Kazami is a lovely little hostel, around a three-minute walk from Iseshi Station and not much farther from the Outer Shrine. Hinoki wood throughout the interior gives it a lovely scent and a peaceful feel.
