Hotel Olive

The location made getting around easy, with the port right nearby and the bus terminal across the street. Ferries take you to other islands, and there are buses to the airport and around town. Narita owns the hotel and runs a little cafe downstairs, where she bakes gorgeous bread. It’s modest, but had what I needed for a short five day vacation. She’s so warm and kind.

The staff are very helpful, and breakfast is lovely. The ferry terminal is a five minute walk away, with the city center right there too. If you’re bringing diving gear, bear in mind there’s no lift.

The hotel is clean and comfortable, and the service is great. It’s right in the center of Ishigaki-shi, with FamilyMart, Omiyage shops, restaurants, the port and both main bus stops all about a three minute walk away. You can also add breakfast for a low price. It looked delicious, though we didn’t try it since we left early each day. If I get back to Ishigaki, I’d seriously consider staying here again.

This is my second time staying here. It’s great and affordable, with breakfast options for around ¥1000 or a simple, tasty morning meal for ¥670. That includes coffee or tea, your choice of bread made on the spot, and salad. Booking earlier makes the room cheaper. There’s a jacuzzi, locker, TV, wi-fi, toothbrush and toothpaste, towels for your face and body in the room, and makeup remover in the shower. The bus and ferry terminals are only a five minute walk away, and you can visit the islands from there. There’s also swimming with dolphins near the hotel, which was a great experience.
