This quiet little port town was a lovely place to stay, and I chose it as a mainland base for taking the ferry to Tashirojima (Cat Island). If you're planning to visit the island, this hotel works really well. The hotel has the basic things you expect, like pajamas, shampoo, and a hair dryer, plus 12 lovely cats in one wing that the owners look after and let guests visit. I even got to help feed them dinner, which was fun. The hosts offered to drive me to Ajishima Chuo Port, which I gladly accepted since it’s a 40 minute walk from the hotel. I stayed in October 2025 and would definitely return, especially with my cat loving family.

The owner's kindness made this my favorite experience of the whole Japan trip. He gave us a tour of the hotel, showed us the cutest way to hold a cat, explained everything we needed to know about getting to Cat Island, and drove us to the ferry the next morning. We even stopped at a bakery so he could get us something to eat, and he waved as the ferry set off. The whole hotel has a cat theme, with about 20 cats living there. It’s fabulous, and if you love cats, this is a must on a trip to Japan. We came to Tama Hotel because we wanted to visit Cat Island, and I highly recommend staying here. That was peak japanese hospitality!

The owner was the real highlight of our stay. Mino was so kind, from driving us to the Tashirojima Island ferry to taking us to the temple to burn New Year decorations. His warmth made the whole visit memorable, and I can’t recommend the hotel enough. Thank you so much for your kindness and hospitality, Mino-san! For cat lovers, Tama Hotel is a dream. There’s cat decor everywhere and 20 cats to spend time with. Everything was extremely clean and tidy, and staying here was a truly memorable experience.

The price, room service, location, and host were all amazing. He made us feel welcome and went out of his way to provide free extras, including two bikes that were our favorite. He also explained the town with translations and drove us to the Tashirojima cat island ferry. He let us feed his cats, each with their own personality, and told us about his rescue. An extremely kind host.

The owner gave us a tour of the hotel and Ishinomaki, and provided drop off and pick up from Chuou port. Such a wonderful person and an amazing level of hospitality. If you love cats, you’ll get to meet the boss, Tama the cat, along with the other cats at Tama Hotel. Anyone staying in Ishinomaki for a trip to Tashirojima should stay here!
