The common bathhouse at the Geihinkan was peaceful and serene, and I liked how the hotel brought Western comfort together with Japanese sensibilities. The open kitchen in the lobby was a special touch. A spectacular, quiet shoreline where locals fish is about a 10-minute walk along the main highway. Service and facilities here felt like a night-and-day difference from the other Akazawa properties. Two staff members were waiting when I got off the bus, and the service was pleasant overall. The rooms and interiors were pristine and elegant, there were lots of places to sit and relax, and the stay was surprisingly good value. I mistakenly thought I could use private sea-view baths at the cheaper Akazawa onsen hotel. When I went there to ask, the staff's attitude was awful. The staff there were foreign and very rude, and the facilities were old and in awful condition. The famous Akazawa spa also underwhelmed me. I only visited, but didn't feel any need to use it. Most of the staff there were foreign too, and some weren't very pleasant. Dinner was one of the best Ryokan meals I've had, and I've stayed at hundreds all over the country. I hardly get excited by Kaiseki anymore, but this one was special. The waitress was from overseas and very polite. Breakfast, though, was terrible. The tuna sashimi was especially cold and fishy, and I left very hungry. If you stay here, I'd skip the other facilities in the compound and just relax at the Geihinkan hotel.

I love it here. The service is good, and the drinking glasses are lovely. A set of sake glasses was worth 50000 yen to me.

We came as a family with a preschooler and hardly saw any other guests, which was a relief since I imagine many people come for a quiet stay. The food was amazing, and drinks were reasonably priced. A local sake tasting started at around 2,500 yen. The children's meals were tasty and more than enough for a preschooler, so the two of us shared one. We didn't try the spa and leisure facilities because they seemed a little difficult with a preschooler. They might work better for families with older kids. The hot spring uses deep sea water, and our 2-year-old found it a bit tingly. We were satisfied overall, but, as others have mentioned, many of the staff seemed to be trainees, which made us a little uncomfortable. It didn't really feel like a luxury inn. The foreign guests did their best, but the food was served sloppily. I hope the service improves.

We stayed at the end of the year and found it peaceful, with small groups around and everything we wanted for a relaxing break: spa, dining, and things to do. It was a good way to refresh body and mind. The rooms were clean and nicely renovated while keeping some nostalgic charm. The large public bath felt open and spacious, and the staff were welcoming throughout the stay. We could use the nearby Akazawa Spa freely, and really enjoyed its thalassotherapy pool, sauna, bedrock bath, and hammam. The Deep Sea Lounge was fun too, with drinks, table tennis, billiards, darts, and plenty of board games. The meals were delicious, and they adjusted the dining schedule casually to suit our fast pace. There's usually a wait, so that made the meal feel smooth and stress-free. I'd definitely return, and can confidently recommend it to adults looking for a quiet stay with things to do.

We stayed as a couple in Yamamomo, a room in the annex, and the room was great. Underfloor heating reached all the way to the toilet, the shower was Refa, and the hair dryer was a good Panasonic model. The sauna, open-air bath, and cold bath each had a sofa bed outside, so I really had nothing to complain about there. The grounds had other things to play with too. I checked in at 3 p.m. and ended up having such a full afternoon that I lost track of time. I definitely want to stay again. Thanks very much. The food was the one thing that felt short. Both lunch and dinner could have had a bit more of a staple-food feel, even though everything tasted good. I also wish the person explaining the dishes had been better prepared for the guests paying the higher price. Someone more considerate would have been nice, rather than someone speaking broken or not very good Japanese. For detached-room guests, dining and lodging cost about twice as much, so I would've appreciated a quieter seat than usual, maybe in a corner, even if it was the same table. That's a bit selfish of me, I know. 🙏
