COCO TERRACE -Ocean View-

We left without staying, after a very disappointing experience. We paid about USD 260 for two nights, which isn't cheap in Japan, but the service was terrible. One staff member said we could get a refund and another said it was non-refundable. Later, the hotel claimed we hadn't checked in before 9 p.m. and weren't eligible for a refund. The place is extremely remote and didn't feel like a real hotel. Google Maps took us to the wrong side of the mountain. It was dark and raining, and guests have to climb a long, steep staircase, which is difficult with luggage. When we called for help, staff said it was “difficult to assist.” A female staff member eventually came down, but blamed me for being “impolite” and said they “were about to come down to help,” which clearly wasn't true. She asked about our personal relationship and mentioned “the owner is Chinese,” which felt inappropriate and uncomfortable. When I asked to speak to the manager, she kept me waiting a long time before passing the phone to a man. He said, “If you want better service, you should book a more expensive hotel.” The service was unprofessional, inconsistent, and rude. I'd stayed at several places during my two-week trip in Japan, and this was by far the worst. The Izu scenery is beautiful, but this accommodation isn't worth it.
