Hokkaido Greenland Hotel Sunplaza

The room looked out toward the mountains in the morning, and the hotel is near the bar district. There's free parking nearby, and the staff were kind and friendly. The renovated bathroom was clean, though I was disappointed to find a cracked toilet paper holder and shower-stall wallpaper coming loose. The building is old, but the renovation has left it spacious, which I liked. It's a good example of a Japanese hotel: you take your shoes off in the entrance area and can walk barefoot or in socks on the carpeted floor.

At check-in I learned that children aged three and up would be charged 80% of the adult rate. I told the front desk this hadn't been made clear beforehand, but they just told me to cancel the reservation myself, which was no help at all. Same-day cancellations, though, are accepted at 100%! With regions trying to support families as birthrates fall, this hotel's approach feels outdated. I also found the way they handled this unacceptable for a service business. I won't go near this hotel again.

The building is quite dated, but it's very clean and reasonably priced for a hotel right in front of the station.

We had our annual general meeting at the venue, then a social gathering with a tasty meal afterward. The portions were a little small, and the price surprised me, it seemed a bit high. Still, I suppose that's to be expected for a hotel course meal.
