Hotel Sunroute Ichinoseki

I really enjoyed my stay. The Western-style rooms looked pretty dated, but the Japanese-style rooms are a steal. Mine was gorgeous and comfortable, and the staff were delightful and friendly. It's less than five minutes from the train station, so the location is hard to beat. I'd book again if I'm in the area.

This is an old-fashioned vintage hotel, right by Ichinoseki station, just a few minutes away on foot. There are lots of restaurants nearby. Weekdays seem normal, but weekends can be quiet, especially Sundays. They still use keys for the room doors. I had a single deluxe room with a sofa. The sofa looked really old, though it was okay, and I'm not sure what it's there for. The hairdryer worked well, and the bathroom looked like a typical Japanese hotel bathroom with amenities already provided. Staff were friendly and spoke English, and gave me bottled water at check-in. The bed is why I took off a star. The linen didn't seem clean, with a few hairs on it. Maybe they were from the room attendant, I hope that's all it was. Otherwise, very disappointing.

The staff were the best, so friendly and lovely. The rooms are a nice size, and the location is right opposite the train station. It's a great base for exploring Ichinoseki and the surrounding area, and Ichinoseki has become one of my favourite places in Japan.

The staff were really nice and friendly, though they spoke very little English. The hotel is old but clean. I think renovation work was going on during our visit, and the room heater wasn't working. In winter it was extremely cold. They gave us a tiny box heater that needed water to work, but it didn't last all night and the room still felt freezing. At least the toilet seat was heated, but the bathroom itself was like an icebox. If they'd told us about the renovation, maybe we could have canceled and stayed somewhere else. Or perhaps they could have offered some other compensation.
