The food was delicious!! I’d definitely suggest trying the boar meat.

The meals are the real highlight here. I was surprised the wild boar had no smell at all, and everything was exceptionally tasty. There’s a lot of rice, about a serving for each person, maybe too much. Drinks cost a little more, though you can pick from wine, shochu, or sake. A 7-Eleven is only a short drive away, which was handy. The price of the stay is low for food this good, so it feels like great value. Just know that the grandfather, who hunts and fishes, is also the only person cooking and cleaning. The place feels more like a training camp or a relative’s country home than an inn, and everything besides meals is self-service. Don’t expect much in the way of service or hospitality.

The owner runs the guesthouse by themselves, and it’s around a five-minute walk from the bus stop. Service is informal but friendly. They don’t provide yukata robes or towels. The sheets and pillowcases looked changed, though the duvet cover was clearly reused. The food has quite a strong flavor.

I stopped by for lunch and had the wild boar hotpot, made with meat caught fresh the day before. Everything, from the meat to the side dishes, was delicious, and it left me feeling good all over. Thank you, Izu Megumi, for the lovely meal. 🙏 Next time I’m planning to stay overnight, and I’m looking forward to coming back.
