Izumi

I booked at the last minute because I had another appointment and couldn't find another option. It was barely okay as a place just to sleep, but for this price there are plenty of better hotels, and I won't come back. The room had spiderwebs and barely seemed cleaned, with spiders bigger than my palm around the property. As soon as I walked in, there was a smell you wouldn't expect at a hotel. The only amenity was a toothbrush. The shower was mostly cold, and the hot spring, supposedly open 24 hours, had turned cold in the middle of the night. Next time I'll book much earlier.

The indoor hot spring was really pleasant, and when I left, the landlady even let me take the flowers that had been on the table. She was such a lovely person. The food was delicious, too, and much more lavish than the photos I'd seen online when booking. Breakfast included fish soup made with the same stock as dinner, and that was delicious as well. I was touched by both the landlady's personality and the meals!

We stayed without meals on the first day of Golden Week. Even though the bath was supposed to be open around the clock, we were told to take it early and asked what time we'd like to bathe. The hairdryer spewed out a nauseating amount of dust, and oddly, there wasn't even a trash can in the room. But the biggest issue was the strawberry-picking discount coupon that was part of our plan. We didn't plan strawberry picking, so we forgot about the coupon and only noticed after we got home. Still, forgetting a service included in the plan felt unacceptable. (´-`).｡oO

The landlady's warm personality was the best part of our honeymoon stay. She even came to open the door for us though we were the only guests, and then she went out during our stay, which made me feel bad for interrupting her while she was busy (lol). We were a funny couple, mistaken for mother and child even though it was our honeymoon (^^), and I'd like to come back when the kids are a little older. The inn isn't especially spacious, but it's a great fit if you don't want the bustle of a traditional Japanese inn. We ate local-fish sashimi that looked and tasted great, and there was plenty of it. The sea is nearby, as are places like Toi Gold Mine, and it's a handy base for heading south around Izu or to Numazu. I like to travel spontaneously, so that worked well for me. It's been five years since we stayed, but I suddenly remembered it (^^). We were very happy with our stay.
