The food is a big part of the stay, from the multi-course Japanese dinner with wagyu, fish, mountain vegetables, crab, and miso soup to the two breakfast choices. There’s also a bakery with pastries, baked goods, and really good ice cream, plus a small gift shop. The views are breathtaking, and the hotel itself feels like a work of art. The hike takes around 40-60 minutes and gets steep, so it may be tough for older hikers, but the view at the top is stunning. The healing onsen is what Tofuya resort is best known for. I’d say it’s a great place to spend 3-5 nights.

The food kept us happy the whole stay. We tried both Japanese and Western breakfasts, had two Japanese dinners, and everything from the bakery was delicious. I’m already missing the curry bread! We stayed in a riverside villa with a private onsen, which felt like a dream, and loved the hike to the Mount Fuji viewpoint. The spa team was fantastic, and I really enjoyed my massage and facial. The property is gorgeous and peaceful, but the staff made the biggest difference. They were so kind and went out of their way to make our visit special. We’ll definitely come back next time we’re in Japan. Thanks to everyone at Tofuya for such a memorable stay ❤️

I felt relaxed when I left, and the private family Onsen was a great way to try the experience as an American who felt a little unsure about gender-segregated Onsens. The small private Onsen in our room was a lovely extra. The welcome was warm too, with Yukatas, an escort to the couch while someone checked us in, and a beautiful walk way and location. My jaw dropped when we drove up. I do wish there had been English instructions for the water heater, thermostat, lights, and humidifier, perhaps in a binder, along with guidance on wearing the different Yukatas and etiquette. The place is huge, so some small cleaning details may be hard to avoid, but a few overlooked spots surprised me, especially compared with other places I’ve stayed in Japan. Still, it was an amazing experience and I’d absolutely recommend it.

The garden and mountain setting is gorgeous, and the Onsen was amazing. We paid a little over $500 a day for the Villa with two meals included, which felt like a bargain compared with other Onsens we’ve stayed at. I’d definitely spend a bit more for the Villa.

The resort’s garden-style layout is beautiful, and the service was very good. The room felt a little aged to me. I’d recommend it if you’re visiting the area.
