I got to make a small tatami mat in the workshop, then the owner and I even worked on a full-size one for a client. His family has made Tatami mats for generations, and the workshop is next door, run by his father. Booking a session is something I’d really recommend. It felt like an honour, and probably a one-of-a-kind experience in Japan 🙇♂️. The owner’s a lovely guy too. We spent ages chatting and swapping stories, went on a little outing to see another hostel where we knew some of the same people, and he helped me at the post office before my flight home. Such thoughtful hospitality. Thanks for having me ^_^

We stayed for a few weeks and would happily return on our next Osaka trip. The owners are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. It’s a short, really lovely walk to the station, with trains into central osaka running pretty much nonstop. The owner speaks English really well, so it was easy to communicate as a foreigner. 10/10, highly recommend :)
It’s a bit of a trek from downtown Osaka, but I’d still love to come back. The house is clean, quiet, and laid-back, with curtains between the tatami mats that give you a little privacy even in the dorm. The owner was lovely and down to earth, and his tips for the Kumano Kodo trail helped me a lot. I had a nice time hanging out with him, his partner, and a friend who dropped by. Really enjoyed my stay!
I stayed almost a week and was glad I did. The place is clean and well organized, and the other guests were friendly. I also joined the fun tatami-making class, which was interesting, and got to take home a little mat I made. The owners were lovely, and the guest house has traditional tatami mats plus a workshop next door. Osaka is a bit of a distance away, but that suited me: I wanted somewhere in a regular neighborhood, outside the city. Transit makes town easy to reach, and it’s a simple ride to KIX airport. A really unique stay!
My first hostel, and Izumi made it such a cozy, clean, sweet place to stay. I ended up extending, of course. There’s a tatami workshop that’s super interesting, free bikes, yummy donuts, and even Mario party in the event space next store. The location is quiet and laid-back. 10/10/10/10, enjoy!!!!!!
