Izu Village Heso Hotel

The room was about what I expected for the price, but it had no bathroom, so I had to go to a separate building. It was freezing on the way there and inside the bathroom. The hot spring, though slightly lukewarm, was fantastic and left my skin slippery in the water and smooth afterward. I was looking for a cheap place to stay while going to the Japan Cycle Sports Center to watch the 2025 Deaflympics. I came by train, and was pleased to find Marugame Seimen, McDonald's and a MaxValu supermarket within walking distance. For the price, I was more than satisfied.

It was an inexpensive stay, 5,500 yen on May 22, 2026, and they even included a local beer for free, which was a nice touch. There’s no private bathroom in the room, but there is a large public hot spring bath.

The chair in the bath had stains I didn’t like, so I took off a point. The bath initially looked like a training camp facility, but the Izu spring water was excellent and left my skin smooth. From the tub, the view up at the bathroom looked a bit like a mountain hut for climbers. It had its own kind of charm and felt open. There’s a little walking path beside the parking lot down to the river, which made for a refreshing morning stroll. The hotel is a handy stopover, with a fairly large souvenir shop. The hallway had a strong air freshener smell, while the room smelled of sweat.

The weekday hot spring was nice to have to myself, though the tub is too small to relax in with other people. Light from the roadside stop came through the blinds until midnight and made it hard to sleep. The first floor had a very strong Downy softener smell, but thankfully it didn’t carry into the room.
