It’s handy having a 7-Eleven next door, with the main shopping street only a few blocks away. Our room was small, and the bathroom door opened straight toward the bed instead of the rest of the room. The floor light was tied to two really bright wall lights, so we unscrewed those to use the floor lighting.

We’ve visited Japan more than ten times and spent eight days in Kagoshima, staying at seven hotels. This one had the least friendly staff we’ve encountered. At check-in around 6:30 p.m., the elderly staff member made us feel disrespected and uncomfortable, though we stayed polite. There were no smiles, greetings, or thanks in either Japanese or English, just short commands like “pay” and “sign.” Then the English breakfast instructions were slapped down hard on the table without a word. Staff need more training in how they treat foreign guests. Everyone deserves courtesy, whether or not they speak Japanese.

A good fit for backpackers as well as business travelers. It’s cheap and has what you need, if you’re not expecting the kind of service you’d get at an expensive hotel.

It looks a bit old, but it’s good.
