Fav Lux Kagoshima Tenmonkan

The standout for me was the space: the room is large, well laid out, and has a small kitchen and washing machine. I recommend the king bed room for its corner position and terrific view of Sakurajima, Kagoshima's iconic volcano. There's a restaurant upstairs, and room service is available. Cleaning works differently from a typical hotel: for stays under three nights, they collect rubbish and replace used towels daily, while room cleaning is only provided for longer stays. It's also a short walk to the famous white bear shaved ice cafe that everyone has to try in Kagoshima. A comfortable choice if you want room to spread out, a view, and apartment-style amenities.

Traveling alone, I found the room felt like a little apartment, with a fantastic mountain view. It had a kitchenette, a washer-dryer combo, and a tub overlooking the view. It was the best hotel I stayed at on my trip, and felt luxurious. Highly recommend it in Kagoshima.

We were glad to get a bunk bed room on level 10, with Sakurajima visible from both the room and bath. The rooms felt new and clean, and had enough space to open large suitcases. We came from sister hotel Fav Lux Nagasaki, where reception told us Fav Lux Kagoshinma Tenmonkan could receive forwarded luggage, so we sent ours ahead. It would be nice if the free amenities area had basic tea and coffee.

Right in the middle of the Tenmonkan commercial district, with shopping, restaurants, and public transport all an easy walk away. The bathroom was the best part: wet and dry areas are separate, the dry side has a rare double vanity for Japan, and the shower room has a large tub with a city view. The front desk miss was sweet and welcoming, and the housekeeping staff bringing towels and collecting rubbish were friendly too. This was the most spacious and comfortable hotel I've stayed at in Japan, and it exceeded my expectations. If I return to Kagoshima, this would be my first and only choice.
