Guesthouse Banvina

I had no discomfort staying in the Japanese Tatami room, and the price was really good. The place was lovely and clean. There’s music night at the cafe every Friday and Saturday, and the atmosphere was fantastic. I’m definitely coming back.

The rooms weren’t as good as some others, but mine was comfortable enough and the price seemed reasonable. It’s a small place, with the second floor used as a hostel, and it had a warm, homelike feel to me. The first floor is a restaurant run by the same owner. A friendly staff member explained the rules, showed me around, and served me a complimentary coffee, which made me feel great about the service. The place is near central Kagoshima Chuo Station. Men and women share the toilet, and towels aren’t provided, so bring your own. You can’t leave your luggage before 11pm while you go out, because reception only starts at 11pm.

The atmosphere was comfortable, and the restaurant is conveniently close to Kagoshima Chuo Station. We had an overwhelmingly delicious vegan curry made with plenty of Kagoshima vegetables. We were also very satisfied to get to try Sakurajima Daikon, the world’s largest daikon, which is registered in the Guinness Book of World Records. We’ll definitely come back when we visit Kagoshima.

There’s no elevator, and the karaoke nearby can be heard in my room because the windows weren’t insulated enough. People sang very badly until midnight. The kitchen is tiny, with no cooking equipment other than a microwave. The cafe is a good place to work, but its music is always on, even if soft, it can be noisy during the day, and it closes at 8 p.m. So this guesthouse is great, but not ideal for studying or working. It has a great location near the train station, buses and tramway, with plenty of shops and supermarkets around. The guesthouse is very clean, the room cozy and air conditioned, and the staff kind and flexible. There are free coffee tickets, a great cafe space with working space, and good wifi.
