Hotel Hokke Club Kagoshima

Breakfast was the highlight, with a chance to try different local dishes, and the view over the street was great too. I could watch people commuting and the tram going by. The staff were helpful, great, and able to communicate in English. The room was neat and clean, though in the morning you can hear people walking along the hallway. The onsen was fine but basic, just one pool. The Dormy Inn I stayed at before, not in Kagoshima, was clearly better.

The staff made a great impression from the moment I arrived. I travel every week, and I was surprised by how warm and attentive everyone was. The front desk greeted me with smiles, and the breakfast buffet staff were lovely too. I saw several of them helping elderly guests and people who seemed unsure how to get food or drinks. The room had a typical business hotel feel. It wasn't small, and although it showed its age, everything was maintained and updated. There's a family mart next door, and umbrellas are available on rainy days. The location is right in front of TAKAMIBABA, one stop from TENMONKAN on the city railway (Shiden), which costs 170¥. Tenmonkan is a five-minute walk away. Compared with hotels in Tenmonkan, the location may not be as good, but there's paid parking.

The buffet breakfast was decent and good value, though nothing special. The hotel interior felt quite old for the price, and my room was tiny. It was clean, but the room I stayed in could use an update.

We got there before check-in, and the staff were friendly and helpful about storing our backpacks. Breakfast was abundant, with very traditional Japanese food. The pillows were good, just a little soft. Good for the price.
