The onsen is nice in principle, but it's very run down, and watch out for splinters in the tubs. The building feels old and shabby, hard to reach and quite remote, even though it's next to a big highway. It looks like it was built sometime in the 60s or 70s and probably hasn't been renovated since. There was very little lighting, mold in the bathroom, and grimy bedding and curtains. Our room had been a smoking room and still reeked of smoke. The carpet was dirty, and the fridge was either freezing everything or switched off. It was also quite loud. The staff tried their best, but didn't speak English. I got by with grade school Japanese.

Communication was difficult because the staff don't speak much English, but they really did try. We arrived very sweaty, and the kind receptionist quickly brought us bottled water. The restaurant and spa have a lovely view of Mt. Fuji. They provided towels, sleepwear, toothbrushes, hair combs, razors, shampoo, body wash and lotion. After staying in so many hostels during my time in Japan, this hotel felt refreshing and accommodating.

The rooms feel a bit old, and the hotel has a strong old-smoke smell. You can see Fuji-san from the onsens, which are okay, but they're closed from midnight until 9am. That means you can't have a quick refresh before work or a walk. It's the first hotel I've seen where you can't use the onsen in the morning before breakfast.

The room is tiny, so I wouldn't stay here for a long stretch. The onsen is amazing, though, with a wide variety of baths. The meals they provide are adequate, filling and standard quality.

Good value, clean and no frills. It's easy to reach by car and close to the city and all the important sites. The staff are professional, and check-in and check-out were both very quick.
