Sounkyo Choyotei

The room had a lovely view, and the location was convenient. The facilities do feel old, though, and even by Asian standards the bathroom was tiny. Food was pretty standard, nothing special. The onsen was roomy but had a bit of an odd smell.

Being so close to the Kurodake ropeway was especially handy after our hike. We were exhausted and soaked by the rain near the end, so getting back quickly to a hot bath and dinner was a relief. We liked the Japanese-modern Western room, especially how the beds and tables were arranged, and the buffet dinner was good. There didn’t seem to be many people at reception, but the staff who were there helped us out.

The shared lounge has a nice layout, and the place was clean. Staff were really friendly. The room has bunk beds, and you make your own bed, but it wasn’t hard. I liked the black bean curry rice at dinner, and the shower is the onsen type. Would recommend it.

We had the kaiseki-style dinner, with some of the freshest and best raw seafood I’ve ever had. The side dishes were good too, and the salmon nabe had a really rich taste. For our one-night stay, the room was spacious, mixing tatami with modern beds, and there was a living room where we could relax and have a drink with friends.
