We stayed one night in the Ogi room at Meigetsuso, which had plenty of room and two baths, one indoor and one open-air. We made good use of the amenities and found it easy to relax. The garden mountains and Mt. Zao looked especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset. The staff were very kind and attentive, and kept trying to communicate in English. When that got difficult, we used Google Translate. They caught bugs in our room, arranged a massage at short notice, and helped send our luggage ahead to a future destination with TA-Q-BIN. Both meals used local Yamagata ingredients, and the care that went into them was clear. I enjoyed every dish. We also liked the lounge with free coffee and tea, and discovering little library nooks around the building. We explored the shop, gallery, and nearby surroundings, but didn't get to see the fairy forest before leaving. Meigetsuso felt traditional and modern at once, with a distinctive rustic garden and forest atmosphere. We had a great stay.

The inn felt warm and homey, rather than like a luxury property. Antique pieces throughout the building gave it a lot of character, and the lively shopping area had a striking handmade feel, with none of the mass-produced look. Although the building is old and renovated, it didn't feel worn or dirty. The usable old items have been kept with care, so the original atmosphere remains, with just enough comfort added for a modern stay. I liked that they valued these things instead of forcing everything to look new. Boiled tamago konnyaku, a local specialty, is served in the hall until 6 p.m., which made for a relaxed Yamagata touch. The English menu stood out. I've stayed at inns with English-speaking staff, but this was the first time an English menu was ready from the start, and I appreciated the thoughtfulness. Every meal was tasty and nicely presented, with portions that were just right. Nothing was flashy, but it was all carefully made and enjoyed in a relaxed setting. The sake brewery had a wide range of high-end brands. Since I drink that sort of sake regularly in Tokyo, I brought local sake from a nearby liquor store instead. I would have liked to see more options from lesser-known local breweries. The attention to detail showed everywhere. This was the most relaxing inn stay I've had so far, and I'd love to come back soon. Thank you.

We came for a family trip, and the inn's older facilities added to its atmosphere instead of detracting from it. The Japanese-style garden and interior are mixed with Western details in a way that works beautifully. The whole place felt like a stylish cafe, and we relaxed easily. We were greeted with delicious konjac balls in the hall, with the flavors soaked right through. The lounge on the grounds had a classical Western feel and made the stay feel luxurious. The food was especially good, with excellent ingredients and superb combinations with the broth. The Yamagata beef had light fat and a rich, meaty flavor. We ordered the Yamagata beef rice pilaf separately and worried the portion might be too much after all the other dishes, but it was so good that we kept eating until we were full. It was the best rice pilaf I've ever had, and I highly recommend it. I felt strangely fulfilled even though I'd spent my time relaxing at the inn. I'd definitely like to come back. Thank you very much.
