Camellia Inn

Kenrokuen Garden and Castle Park are easy to reach from here, and there's a small local Onsen about a ten-minute walk away. Our room was just right, and the shared spaces and amenities were lovely. The hosts were so kind and helpful, and breakfast was fantastic. They made a real effort to accommodate our vegan diet. I hear they also serve a great dinner, though there aren't many other restaurants open nearby in the evening. A few more are about 15-20 minutes away on foot. Such a warm, comfortable place. We highly recommend it.

The staff were so warm and the meals were delicious. Every corner of this Inn is charming, and there's even a little reading nook with books for kids. It felt like much more than I expected, and it's a lovely place for children too. I'd be happy to stay again if I'm in the area.

The breakfast was a real surprise: soup, omelette, meat, fruit, fresh juice, bread, and coffee, far beyond the simple egg and toast we expected. They can handle special dietary needs if you mention them at check-in. The staff also marked up a map of recommended sights and restaurants for us, and when we checked out about half an hour late, they didn't charge extra. We were in Kanazawa for one night with my boyfriend on the way to Toyama. The hotel sits just behind Kenrokuen Garden, so it's quiet while still close to the city's attractions. It's a tiny place, maybe 10 rooms, made from a renovated kura, a traditional Japanese storage building found at larger homes. The lounge mixes old and new, Japanese and Western styles, and they offer free coffee and tea, plus a small snack to have with an alcoholic drink. Our room was small, even by Japanese standards, though we only used it to shower and sleep, so it was fine. There's another little lounge upstairs with free coffee, tea, and cookies, plus a computer, books, and newspapers. The decor there was lovely too. Wifi worked on my boyfriend's phone but not mine. It's an adorable family-run business. We both speak Japanese fluently and had no trouble communicating. I can't say how smoothly English would work, but they seemed ready to try their very best.

The hosts were wonderfully gracious, and they clearly paid attention to all the little details. This small place has every amenity we needed, and the five-course breakfast was top quality. Thank you, Camellia Inn, for such a lovely night's stay.
