OYO Motodai Business Hotel Kanonji

For a walking henro, this is a perfectly serviceable budget hotel, and the single star rating from a previous reviewer seems undeserved. The building looks like it used to be an apartment block, which explains the enormous rooms by business hotel standards. We paid less than 4000 yen for two rooms, with a full closet and unit bath. Everything was clean, the service professional, and there was a key drop box for an early departure. Hard to complain!

During Golden Week in 2019, everything else was booked and this place kept me out of the rain for three nights. I'd recommend it to any walking henro. The rooms feel more like an apartment than a hotel, and they're modern and clean. The staff were extremely helpful, the location is top notch for walking henro, and the WiFi is fast. I can't understand who thought this deserved a 1-star rating. It's far better than that.

The pillows were nice, and the room was spacious. It wasn't new, but having a washing machine came in handy during the two nights I stayed here on my walking pilgrimage. I do wish they'd do something about the TV, though. It only had channels 1 and 6.

The bathroom setup is handy, with a separate shower and bathtub. There's also an extractor fan, so cooking at the sink with a portable cooker doesn't leave you worrying about odors. I liked being able to eat freshly cooked food in my room. The fridge freezes really well, which is great for keeping ice for evening drinks. I had a highball with grilled chicken and herbs in my room. You couldn't do that in a regular business hotel, lol, but it's possible here!
