Grand Base Karatsuekiminami

The room was clean and comfortable, and it's near Karatsu station. But don't book here if you can't speak and read Japanese. The automated check-in was a hassle because I never received the passcode email, and the room's controls are all on Japanese remotes.

The location is really central, just a two-minute walk from Karatsu train station, and the internet worked well. My room was spacious, with four beds and plenty of room for four people. It had a kitchen with a stove, microwave, cookware, plates, and cutlery, plus a washing machine in the bathroom. Some appliances were only in Japanese, but the in-room iPad had English instructions. As a European tourist, I had no trouble checking in: a real person joined by video call, spoke good English, and had everything sorted in a few minutes. A good choice for tourists staying in this region.

There's a hot spring bath, a lovely sea view, and a convenience store nearby. The food was quite delicious, too. The hotel isn't new, but it's been well maintained.

A quiet residential area makes for a comfortable stay, and there's a practical parking option just a minute away: Karatsu Station West Parking Lot charges a maximum of 500 yen for 24 hours. The hotel itself has no parking. It's a three-minute walk from Karatsu Station. Room instructions and controls are on a multilingual panel by the door. Inside, there's an induction cooktop with utensils and cutlery, a microwave, a double-layer refrigerator, and a washing machine with detergent. The Wi-Fi is very fast, and the TV is a Sony smart TV. There's no dryer, but the bathroom ventilator and heater can dry laundry in about 2-3 hours.
