Mercure Saga Karatsu Resort

Mr. Kondo at breakfast made my mornings. He was naturally warm and helpful, and I enjoyed chatting with him. The whole team seemed to understand hospitality, and the hotel felt like a place with real character and a sense of history. My room on the 8th floor was comfortable and had an authentic feel. The food was genuinely good, and there were plenty of included drinks to choose from. I'd come back for a hotel that feels homey and has personality.

I'm grateful for the help we received during my family's two-night stay. The night before checkout, I misplaced the key to our rental car near the parking lot in front of the main lobby. When I noticed it was missing the next morning, I was very distressed because it could have disrupted our whole travel itinerary. At the front desk, Mr. T. Pawan and Ms. I. Miki listened with care and acted quickly. They contacted the relevant departments and arranged to check surveillance footage. After checkout, the three cleaning ladies on our floor, whose names I unfortunately didn't get, searched our room in case the key had been left there. Everyone kept helping for two hours. In the end, Mr. Thapa Pawan found the key in bushes right beside our car in the parking lot. It had clearly been intentionally discarded by someone else. Their concern, persistence, and prompt action meant we could continue our trip without changing our plans. Their service and professionalism deserve recognition. We'll definitely come back.

The relaxation lounge was a favorite, a nice place to rest after a hot bath with amazake and hot tea served there. Staff were polite and helpful, and breakfast had a broad choice of Japanese and Western options. The rooms were outdated, but we still had a comfortable stay.

Staff were okay, and breakfast was acceptable. The croissant was the only Mercure touch that felt right to me, while the free evening drinks seemed like the only way to forget where you were. The rooms and corridors looked as if they were from another century. I've never seen a hotel in such poor condition, especially in Japan. It made me wonder whether this was really a Mercure hotel. I also wondered what the groups of high school teenagers were doing there, and whether it's a youth hotel too.
