Getting to the open-air onsen took us about five minutes on foot because our room was at the far end of the corridor. Once there, both the indoor and outdoor baths felt modern and relaxing. Our room was huge, with a living area and lots of space for my youngest to wander. Staff explained everything carefully at check-in, and breakfast offered a wide range of choices.

I was hoping to see Shiraito waterfall and snow in Karuizawa, and figured a resort would be nice if I found one at a reasonable price. This place fit the bill, and I had a really enjoyable stay. The Japanese-style room was big and very cozy, with snow visible from the balcony. The food was great, and there's a shuttle to Karuizawa station, or it's about a 15-minute walk. If you're visiting Karuizawa from Japan, I'd suggest spending a night here.

I only came here to catch the red bus to uzui pass for the autumn leaves, but the hotel looked very nice from outside and I'd like to stay sometime. This is the bus's first stop, and it arrived right on time. By the time everyone boarded it was nearly full. There are a few seats, but most people had to stand, which was okay. Was it 500jpy per trip?

Among the six hotels I tried while in Japan, this one felt even better than the Hakone place that costs 20000 yen a night per person. The food, service, atmosphere, and hot spring were all top tier. It's a privately owned hotel operated by Tokyu group. Members of their group can stay up to 30 nights at one of their hotels for 4000 yen per night.
