Hotel Marroad Karuizawa

Just stayed one night, and it was perfect for a short visit. The location is far enough from the tourist area to stay quiet, and the staff were friendly. The rooms are nice but definitely older, with a late Showa and Bubble era feel. The hotel entrance is cool too.

Hotel Marroad gives you a peaceful, forested setting and a comfortable place to stay, close to the train and busy tourist shopping areas. The Japanese hospitality was exceptional. There are more upscale hotels in Kariuzawa, but I really enjoyed my stay here.

The rooms are large and clean, and the hotel itself is quite nice. The location is okay, around 15 minutes on foot from the station and ski slopes, though I found the shuttle or a taxi more convenient. The service was five-star. During the winter off-season, they’ll pick you up and drop you off between the hotel, station and ski slopes for free when you call. I’ve never stayed somewhere so accommodating. When I felt too unwell to go down for breakfast, they brought it to my room, which I really appreciated.

I stayed in room 201 at Marroad hotel Karuizawa on the night of 27 March 2023. I’m asking for a refund of 6600 yen, the difference between 9900 yen and 3300 yen, to my credit card. The hotel ignored my request. I booked a two single-bed room with breakfast for one person, but there were two of us that night. The staff charged an extra JPY 9900, which I believe was too much. I explained my concern, but they dismissed it. The standard rate on your website for one person in a two-bed room with breakfast is 18700 yen, which I paid through BOOKING. COM. For two people with breakfast, the listed rate is 22,000 yen, a difference of 3300 yen for the additional person. The staff member seemed inexperienced and wouldn’t listen to guests. They couldn’t understand English.
