I was glad the host asked about Haikyu and then gave me a guidebook to the locations around Karumai. The ryokan is right in town, near the places that inspired the series, and its restaurant served comforting home-style meals. It also had the basics I needed, including shampoo, a hair dryer and pajamas. I visited in October 2025 and would happily stay here again. Buses connect the town with Ninohe and Hachinohe, and there’s parking if you drive. A car would help reach some pilgrimage sites, especially the last one. Keep in mind that Karumai is small and remote: shops and late-night food are hard to come by, and many places shut around 7 pm. Booking breakfast and dinner with your stay seems like a sensible way to avoid worrying about meals.

The room was clean after its renovation, and it suited what I needed this time. At 9,500 yen for a night with two meals, though, I’d probably head into Hachinohe if I didn’t have a reason to be in the area. There aren’t any shops nearby, so this is mainly a place to stay. Getting around is convenient, with Hachinohe, Kuji and Ninohe all accessible. The location just off Karumai Interchange is handy for work in Karumai and nearby places.

We were able to adjust the group size for our motorcycle tour, which I really appreciated. The food was delicious, too. With a large parking lot and a spot close to the highway, it worked well as a base for sightseeing. We’d use the restaurant again if we get the chance.

We found this hotel while travelling and were happy we did. The staff were very friendly, and we enjoyed a delicious meal and a lovely time there. We’ll definitely come back!

The noodles were just right, and the mini katsudon had a nostalgic taste. I ordered the recommended Chinese-style cold noodle set for lunch, which came with the pork cutlet rice bowl, and really enjoyed it. The traditional Japanese inn serves lunch as well, with several dishes on the menu.
