Kappo Ryokan Shiroyama

There was plenty of parking, and we could walk to a large supermarket and restaurants in about 15 minutes. The place felt so quiet and clean, and the manager was wonderfully kind, something I appreciated every time. Even though it was cold, roses and fresh flowers were everywhere, including in the bathroom. Those thoughtful touches made me feel welcome and really moved me. It felt like we were cared for even better than at a hotel. I’d recommend it to friends and will definitely come back with my family. ^^

The food was undeniably good, and the rooms were spacious. I visited around the end of July, and the young landlady made me feel very welcome. We had no trouble communicating with a translation app. The place has a lot of history and a distinctive old-fashioned warmth, unlike a modern business hotel. It felt a bit like coming home to the countryside. One thing to watch for: the doors are quite low, so taller guests should be careful.

The inn staff gave us perfect service, and the whole visit became a great memory. It was my first time staying here with friends. The Japanese-style inn has a charming feel, with rooms and a large public bath that added to the pleasure of the trip. We had lots of Japanese dishes to choose from, all varied and tasty. The recommended sake was delicious too. After a morning bath, breakfast was especially appetizing. Thank you very much.

I stayed in mid-April, expecting a lot because this place had high ratings on accommodation and travel sites. I came away disappointed, and I’m puzzled by those ratings. The bathroom area in the guest room, with the toilet, sink, and private bath, had no heating or air conditioning, so it was painfully cold to use. More broadly, the facilities felt old, with maintenance and updates seeming to have fallen behind. The food should be a highlight, but it came across as amateurish. I’m not sure it deserves to be called a “kappo” restaurant. There’s just one large bath, with strict time slots for men and women, which made it hard to relax. I also found the staff’s manners lacking. After breakfast, when I walked toward the lobby, I saw a staff member lounging on a sofa. Management needs to put in more effort.
